Description
The stretch of water just below Pitlochry Dam is well known. The beat extends from a marker post about 100 yards from the face of the dam downstream for about 0.75 miles to the foot of the Milton of Fonab caravan site. Fishing is from the south (right) bank only. The fishing rights were acquired by Pitlochry Angling Club in 1974.
Throughout the salmon season salmon lie in this water waiting for suitable conditions to draw them upstream via the famous fish ladder at the dam, which lies just upstream of the beat, and into Loch Faskally.
The fishing is often particularly good in the spring and early summer, but there are also summer runs of grilse. Most of the fish caught on the beat are taken on fly or spinner. A maximum of three anglers is allowed. The conservation guidance issued by the Tay District Salmon Fisheries Board is strongly commended to all anglers fishing the beat. There is no gillie.
